  • Outdoor Swim Lessons 

    Registration for Session One: March 27th - June 25th
    Registration for Session Two: July 17th - 23rd. 

    We accept swimmers of all levels! Please see the American Red Cross swim level chart in the additional forms link below to determine where you fit best. Classes are 30 minutes in length for three weeks. Thunder and Lightning is a hazard for both indoor and outdoor lessons. In the event of such weather, the water safety instructors will hold “out of water” lessons that contain important information that your child must know (why people drown”, basic water safety, accident prevention, water hazards, and using the buddy system).

    Registration is on a first-come/first-serve basis.

    Sessions 1 Dates: 6/26/2023 - 7/13/2023 (There will be no lessons Tuesday, July 4th. Make-up's will be on Friday, July 7th)

    American Red Cross Learn To Swim Skill Levels
    LEVEL I: INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS
    Purpose is to help students feel comfortable in the water. Class includes basic skills such as entries, submerging, holding breath, floating, kicking, and arm action.
    LEVEL 2: FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS
    Purpose is to give students success with fundamental skills. New skills introduced include bobbing, turning over, gliding, front and back crawl, treading water, swim on side.
    LEVEL 3: STROKE DEVELOPMENT
    Purpose is to build on the skills in Level 2 through guided practice. New skills include deep water entries, survival float, butterfly dolphin kick, rotary breathing, and basic rescue skills.
    LEVEL 4: STROKE IMPROVEMENT
    For students who have passed Level 3 or can demonstrate proficiency in Level 3 skills. New skills in Level 4 include turns, shallow dives, swim underwater, feet first surface dives, front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, and elementary backstroke.
    LEVEL 5: STROKE REFINEMENT
    For students who have passed Level 4 or can demonstrate proficiency in Level 4 skills. Class skills include standing dives, head first surface dives, flip turns, survival swimming, rescue breathing.
  • Kayak/Canoe/Paddle Board Rack Rental 
    Information & Procedures - 2023
     
    Slip Availability and Procedures:  
    • Registration (first come/first served basis): Register in person at the New Milford Parks & Recreation Office, 2 Pickett District Road, New Milford, CT 06776, Mon. - Fri., 8:00 am – 3:30 pm. 
    • There are 35 slips available for registration on a first come, first served basis (27 regular, 8 reserved for handicapped and seniors 65+).
    • A diagram of the available slips will be displayed in the office.
    Requirements   
    • Applicant must be a New Milford resident or tax payer (two (2) forms of proof required at registration; Current: CT driver's license or CT non-driver photo ID, vehicle registration, mortgage deed, one (1) year residential lease or property tax bill.)
    • Applicant must have or create a household account on our website. (applicant's name must be listed as an account member on existing accounts [reset password does not work: please call the office, Do Not make another account]).
    • Government issued proof of handicapped or senior (65+) status required. 
    • Park rules and regulations. Carefully read the rules and retain them for your records.
     Slip Fee: $70 (only one (1) vessel allowed per slip). 
    • Vehicle pass not included (a separate vehicle park pass must be purchased at Lynn Deming to enter the park).

    Calendar of Important Dates:  
    • Vessels may be placed on the racks starting April 1st, 2023. 
    • Vessels must be removed from the racks by the 2nd Sun. in Nov. (11/12/23) or a $25.00 per day late fee will be charged! If late fee(s) are not paid you will lose the privilege of using the racks in the future.
    • Vessels remaining after the last Sun. in Nov. will be confiscated and you will be required to pay a $50 impound fee in addition to all accumulated late fees.
    Please be Aware:  
    • New Milford Parks & Recreation lifeguards, waterfront personnel & staff are not permitted to assist with the placement or removal of personal vessel from the racks or beach/water areas.
    • The Town of New Milford and New Milford Parks & Recreation do not assume any liability for the loss, theft, damage or injury (or death) to persons or their personal property. Rack renters agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Town of New Milford and New Milford Parks & Recreation for any liabilities, theft, damage, cost or expense whatsoever arising from or related to any claim or litigation which may arise out of or in connection with the rack renters use and occupancy of the rental property, including but not limited to claims for personal injury or property damage/loss.
    Slip Wait-list:
    • Once all slips have been rented, the online wait-list will be made available to New Milford Residents.
    • Registering for the wait-list must be done online by submitting the required information & documentation prior to check out (there is no charge for the wait-list).
    • Wait-list applicants do not have preference of slips and will be offered a slip only if and when one becomes available (provided the slip can accommodate their vessel).
    • The wait-list is only for the 2023 season and will not carry over.

To get started please "Create an Account" with all your household information. The data provided (emergency contacts, medical information, etc.) will help us better serve you. This info will also be automatically placed into your registration forms.

When you’re ready to start registering for activities, be sure to review the "How to Register for an Activity" page.

Please be aware:

  • All Fees, Account Credits, Gift certificates & Deposits (full or partial balance): non-refundable - cannot prorate or transfer (exceptions require P&R Comm. approval & must be submitted in writing or via email - requests after 30 days of program end date will not be considered). 
  • Credit/Debit Card Processing Fees: non-refundable (charged via third party - unrelated to program fees). 
  • Canceled Programs: fees will be credited to your account (refund requests required in writing or via email, include name/address to mail the refund check - requests after 30 days of program cancellation date will not be considered). 
  • Returned Checks: A $25 processing fee charged per check. 
  • Giving False Information: May result in your being asked to leave a program without refund or account credit.
